The story of Maia began in a small apartment kitchen in Uptown Manhattan, where founder Hamilton Colwell set out to create a yogurt that was simple, and honest, with less sugar. With nothing more than a double boiler, a heating pad, and a beach towel, Hamilton developed a recipe that impressed even the harshest critics. From those humble beginnings, Maia was born—a yogurt that combines rustic charm with superior nutrition.
Inspired by Maia, the Goddess of growth and
rebirth, we see every cup of our yogurt as a blend of magic and simplicity. With the help of Registered Dietitian Mary Jane Detroyer and dairy experts from Cornell’s School of Agriculture, Hamilton perfected his vision, partnering with family-owned farms to create a yogurt that nourishes both body and soul.
Since launching in 2010, Maia has stayed true to its roots by delivering less-sweet yogurt, naturally sweetened with cane sugar, packed with probiotics, and full of nutrients to support your health.

Our Cows: The Heart of Maia Yogurt
At Maia, everything begins with our cows. Raised in the heart of the North-eastern dairy country, our cows are pasture-raised and fed a Non-GMO diet, ensuring the highest quality milk. This milk is a natural source of protein and calcium, essential for building strong bones and teeth.
For women, calcium plays a crucial role in reducing the risk of osteoporosis and is key to fetal bone development during pregnancy. That’s why we are committed to using only the best quality milk in our yogurt—because we believe that true nourishment begins with the healthiest cows and the purest milk.
